What is the PALS course at Simulation.Tirol?

Simulation.Tirol’s Pediatric Advanced Life Support course is about the proverbial “preserves”: We play through medical emergency scenarios from newborns to 12-year-old schoolchildren on our lifelike child simulator.

Here you train as realistically as possible how you should react when a child struggles for life and death. We play through all situations in a way that is suitable for all occupational groups: The emergency doctor experiences simulated preclinical emergencies and is supposed to lead them, the trauma surgeon intraoperative paediatric emergencies, etc.

Our simulator teaches you what to do in a septic shock with a newborn. You will practice scenarios ranging from bradycardic rhythm disturbances to rhythms that require resuscitation. What do you do if a child with nut allergy eats a handful of nuts? What do you do in an asthma attack, bronchospasm, myocarditis, distributive or hypovolemic shock?

In the simulation you can practice every scenario over and over again. You are allowed to make mistakes and are able to learn from these mistakes. Thanks to state-of-the-art debriefing techniques, our senior physicians will take you to the next level in emergency medicine for children.

The simulator has the height and weight of a child. It speaks, breathes, “lives”. The simulator reacts exactly like a real person when you initiate medication and therapy. Here you can simulate lifelike and prepare yourself perfectly for real use.

After the two days at Simulation.Tirol your knowledge will be tested in a practical and a theoretical test. You will receive an advanced training certificate as well as the internationally recognized AHA certificate.

What can you do on the simulator after the PALS course?

  • Identify & assign medical emergencies in children
  • Treatment of medical emergencies in children
  • Reanimation of newborns and children
  • Communication techniques to guide the rescue chain correctly
  • Management safety in medical emergencies involving children

What participants say about the PALS course

Two very learning intensive course days with little theory, but numerous practice-oriented case studies, which are worked out in small groups & very realistic thanks to modern technology. The subsequent video analysis & the professional feedback are extremely instructive. And the picturesque surroundings of the course location & the delicious catering are the icing on the cake. Many thanks for an emergency doctor refresher (PALS course), which was really worth it!

Dr. Johanna Griesser

Specialist in anesthesia, Tyrol Clinics, Innsbruck Medical University

Thanks again for the excellent PALS course. A course for practitioners without long theoretical lectures with theoretical practical instructions. A course for practitioners, practice-oriented case studies, which are developed in a team. The use of modern technology makes every scenario appear extremely real. The following discussion rounds off the overall picture. In short, a professionally designed course with outstanding instructors in a picturesque mountain landscape. There is no better way to prepare for children’s emergencies.

Dr. Oliver Grohs

Specialist in anaesthesia, self-employed, day clinic in Hessen

As an established paediatrician from Bavaria I took part in the PALS – course, was surprised by the intensity of learning, especially by the great closeness to reality of the case simulations and the work in small groups (5-6 p.) with constantly changing distribution of tasks; first-class materials / media, super team; although I was rarely confronted with “advanced life support”, I left the course with a very broad chest.

Dr. Ralph Heidingsfelder

Pediatrician, self employed

Because of working in small groups, the professional trainers, the pleasant atmosphere and last but not least because of the location, I can recommend courses at Simulation.Tirol as preparation for these pressure situations!

Prim. Mag. Dr. Klaus Buttinger

Doctor, austrian health- and hospital-AG

As an independent midwife, it is important for me to deepen my knowledge and skills in various emergencies. In this ambience and with the two competent course leaders, I was able to put myself very realistically into the individual emergency situations. The following video analysis and the feedback were very informative for me. Thank you very much! I can only recommend you!

Kerstin Hanauer

Midwife, self employed
